When I used to think of the words “submission to authority” the first thing that came to mind was submitting to the laws that man had put in place to govern the people.

I have personally witnessed and experienced misuse and abuse of authority by man, so I felt that submission would take away not add to my freedom. Since we live in a world where we constantly see injustice, it can make it challenging to trust the authority of man altogether.

As I began to seek God and become more spiritually mature, I realized that submission is really acknowledging authority that has been placed in your life. The First Authority in your life should be God, Our Creator. This is why submitting to God’s authority can never harm you. You can trust and believe that He knows what’s best even when you don’t.

Submission to God’s authority brings order and adds protection to your life. It will also help you to recognize the proper authority that you must submit to in your natural life as well. Submission to God is the first step to having a healthy and prosperous relationship with Him. You must submit to authority of God in your life before you are capable of submitting to any other authority.

In the Book of Job chapter 22 God instructs Job to submit to Him and He will bring him peace and prosperity. This instruction was not only for Job it’s for you and me too! With our natural mind it can be challenging to trust God especially during turbulent times in our life. It requires a growing faith and obedience to trust and stick to God’s plan for our life. However, when submit to God’s Laws, Principles and Commandments it will reinforce your faith and add the wisdom and strength you need to be victorious in all areas of your life.

Scripture: Job [22:21]-22 (NIV)

21 “Submit to God and be at peace with him; in this way prosperity will come to you. 22 Accept instruction from his mouth and lay up his words in your heart.

Reflection:

Identify and write down one area of your life that you need to submit to God, so you can have peace and prosperity. Seek out a scripture that references that area in your life and meditate tonight for ten minutes on that scripture then write down what God communicates to you.

Prayer:

Lord God, help me to acknowledge and accept Your Full Authority over all areas of my life. Today, I submit to you Your Ways and Principles. By submitting to You, I admit that I do not know everything, but You do. I surrender any thoughts or habits that hinder me from being obedient to your Word. Holy Spirit, I ask to you to teach me and correct me where needed.

I pray this in Jesus name Amen.
