Latch-key kids are on the rise and parents are struggling with not spending enough quality time with their children as they go back to work after being in quarantine. Some are working long hours and getting home late while some never got the chance to go back to a job. Either way, many are stressed out and coming up short and don’t have enough income for adequate childcare and a better lifestyle.
We had the chance to catch up with serial entrepreneur Nicola Smith Jackson and got her point of view on how to keep parenting a priority while building a home business during these ever changing times. “I was an overworked hair stylist working 14 hour days in a traditional business and many times getting home when my kids were getting ready for bed. For me something had to change, there’s a huge price to pay when parents are not available for their children. Most parents are doing the best they can, but don’t know what other options are out there.” says Jackson.
Nicola discovered the network marketing Industry where she could work from home and it forever changed her family life. Within her first year she was able to learn the system and cross the million dollar mark and since then she has developed a passion for helping others who want to work from home. She has inspired hundreds of thousands to become their own boss. Today conditions are demanding that parents explore alternative ways to make a living without having to deal with guilt and compromising their family.
Nicola says it’s important for parents to have faith; even though things are challenging they will get better with the necessary adjustments to the new norm of parents working from home and using technology to provide for their family. This is why she wants to help bridge the gap between the haves and the have-nots and share with parents alternative ways to generate income.
When we asked about specific advice she could give about raising kids and being in business at the same time she says, “I think the important thing is to have a personal vision of the type of family environment you want and the experience you want to give to your children. If you still have small children it’s important that you schedule mommy time and do things you didn’t have time to do before. For instance reading time; spending time in their room with them, letting them help you with preparing dinner and so on. It’s the simple things that children remember and appreciate the most.”
“Older children need time and attention as well. My youngest son is now headed into his teen years and I realize that being there for him now is even more important than when he was younger. We have great conversations and I learn alot about what he’s thinking, what bothers him and what his goals are. I love the smile on his face when he sees me up in the stands at his basketball games. I wasn’t able to do this when I was a hair stylist. They need to know that you’re there for them and that they matter, so being a good listener, participating in their school activities and showing them that you are there for them contributes towards their well-being and confidence.” says Jackson.
Whether you’re working in corporate America or running a traditional small business the COVID-19 Quarantine has caused a lot of parents to look at home business alternatives. Jackson says she has been busier than ever teaching parents her system and how to achieve their family and income goals.
